New England League of Middle Schools

The New England League of Middle Schools, also called NELMS, annually recognizes schools that have a record of effective teaching and learning and who consistently implement best middle school practices. These schools are called Spotlight Schools. Spotlight Schools have model middle school programs, and they implement modern strategies connected to effective instruction, collaboration, teaming, and educational practices.

There are more than 800 middle schools in New England, and NELMs chooses to highlight the top thirty schools who they feel meet these standards. These top thirty schools are called Spotlight Schools.

Westfield Middle School has been named a Spotlight School for 2019-2022. We are one of six spotlight schools represented in Massachusetts. The award will be presented to our school on March 20th at the annual NELMS conference which is held at the Providence Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The award recognizes the outstanding work of our teachers and students as well as the tremendous partnership we share with our families.

On March 27th, Westfield Middle School will hold our own NELMS Spotlight Celebration at 6:00 in our school auditorium. At this time, we will raise the NELMS Banner with a ceremony to immediately follow.  The WMS "Music in our Schools" Concert will begin at 7 p.m.
